1. The first professional football game was played right here in Pittsburgh. On Nov. 12, 1892, the Allegheny Athletic Association defeated the Pittsburgh Athletic Club, 4-0. I have no clue how many points a touchdown was worth back in those days!
2. Arthur “The Chief” Rooney brought professional football to Pittsburgh permanently when he formed the Steelers in 1933.
3. Three Rivers Stadium was completed in 1970 and house both the Steelers and Pirates. The Steelers won four Super Bowls while they played in Three Rivers. The Pirates won two World Series when they played there. While the Stadium was demolished in 2000, the column that marked Gate D still remains standing, which you can see in the background of this photo.
4. A field goal post from Three Rivers Stadium was placed outside of the Heinz History Center in the Strip District.
